Hello, my name is Sarah Pieterse (pronounced Peter-suh) and I am the school counsellor at Fort Saskatchewan Elementary School.
A little bit about me... I began my teaching career with EIPS in 2009 and primarily taught junior high English before becoming a school counsellor in 2022. I grew up in Sherwood Park and currently live in Strathcona County with my husband, our two kiddos, and our dog, cat and bunny. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, camping, exploring in the mountains and reading.
As your school counsellor, my role is to support the emotional, social and intellectual development of all students through counselling, school-based collaborative discussion, coordination of services and communication between the school and family/community, child advocacy, and educational programming.
I provide student support in the areas of recognition and expression of feelings, communication, social skills, conflict resolution, learning difficulties, study habits, self-confidence, stress and anxiety, as well as the development of program plans to support students in achieving their potential.
