Character Education
We build our lions' pride by practicing our school wide character education traits. This year we will be focusing on Integrity, Empathy, Determination, and Gratitude. We talk about the trait daily, have special activities which highlight the trait, sponsor positive referral programs, and sprinkle the trait and its meaning throughout our school.
Empathy
Our students and staff will embrace the character trait of "empathy" from December - February. Empathy is thought to be the cornerstone of character development since an understanding of the feelings of others is key in the success of all of the other traits.
We are talking about Empathy as "Understanding, sensing, and sharing in the feelings of others", or "putting ourselves in someone else's shoes".
We are recognizing students who demonstrate Empathy by putting a "soul of empathy" card on the Star Wall, and by giving them a licorice "shoelace" to enjoy.
Gratitude
As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. ~John Fitzgerald Kennedy
June in Fort Elementary is a month in which we express our gratitude to those who have made this such a successful school year. We thank the parents and community members who have so wholeheartedly supported us, we thank the staff who have contributed untold hours to ensure the highest levels of education, learning, and safety for all our students, and finally, we thank our students. Our students are the best of the best! They are hard working, kind, empathetic, generous, and very bright! We are thankful each day that we have the honor of working with these fine young people. The world will be a better place as the students of Fort Elementary venture forth.
