Math Corner
How might I support my child in mathematics?
Let your child know that all students can be successful in mathematics.
Encourage your child to think of math problems as puzzles or games.
Don't underestimate your own mathematical capabilities.
Don't say, "I was never good at math."
Encourage our child to restate the problem in his or her own words.
Discuss how you use mathematics in your daily life. For example, cooking, shopping, bus schedules, or math at work
Family Math Activity
Here is a new activity that will help children to make connections between number and their own lives.
Here is a question for the older children in the family:
How many bricks are on the new gym wall by the playground?
Explain how you got your answer.
Here is a problem for the younger children in the family;
How many steel poles come out of the old gym's outside walls?
Explain how you got your answer.
Bring your work into school and put it in the draw box in the office, and you will be entered in the draw to win special prizes. We will draw for a fun prize on Friday, February 26, 2010. Have fun!
